Achieving life balance in the midst of a fast-paced corporate world is one of my most difficult challenges. New York City is a like a beast, with a voracious appetite, that will eat you alive if you don’t keep up with it. On the flip side, if you push too hard to keep up, it can run you down, and eventually for many, after years of burning the candle, right out of town. I was born and raised in New York, so even after 33 years of being in the “heart of the business and media jungle”, as I like to call it, I still find dealing with the pace of the city to be an incredible challenge.
So how do we achieve true balance while living and working in competitive, metropolitan cities?
David Richeson, a New York-based IT professional and student of world-renowned philosopher and author Dario Salas, has come up with an approach worth considering, called 360 Degree Success. Richeson recently penned a book and launched a blog-style website (www.360degreesuccess.com) which explain how the system works. It is quite practical - I know, because I too am a fan and believer in the practical theories of Dario Salas, which he calls Operative Philosophy.
Richeson credits much of 360 Success to what he has learned directly from Salas, who resides in Chile, where Richeson has traveled numerous times to attend seminars and retreats.
Here is a brief introduction to the 360 Degree system and how you can get access to it:
- The 360 Success book, now available for purchase through the website, gives us a 7-Step plan, which covers all the key areas of our lives, including Health, Money, Happiness & Self-Worth, Purpose & Spirituality, Self-Improvement, Relationships, Time Mastery and Wisdom.
- Four things in particular that I love about this book: 1. the practical exercises, that we can put to use in our lives right away; 2. the images, which give us good analogies for the problems we face; 3. the “Take the Challenge” section, which comes at the end of each of the seven Steps; and 4. the positive attitude of the author and comprehensive approach taken to cover all areas of life.
- The 360 Success blog is updated frequently, sometimes daily, by Richeson, which bodes well for those looking for clarifications on the system and a fresh, consistent source of motivation.
- More extended articles, like how to “Make More Money Without Selling Your Soul“, and “7 Facts You Need to Know Before Using The Secret Law of Attraction” which come from the popular film The Secret, are also available on the site.
- Richeson gives seminars at the Dario Salas Institute in New York City (www.ihpusa.org) several times per year. Check out the seminar calendar if you are interested in hearing him speak.
360 Success reminds me of 7 Pillars strategy in the holistic approach that it takes to life, or Internet Marketing in the case of 7 Pillars. As well as you can be doing in a number of areas of your life, serious neglect or sabotage in any one area, for example personal finances, can often stain the other positive efforts.
I urge you to buy a copy of 360 Degree Success, or at least check out and RSS the blog. Regardless of your field of work or personality type, you will be able to learn a new set of practical techniques that can help you achieve greater balance and true happiness in your life.

Even though I didn’t read the book, I went through the blog. I must admit that being the cynic that I am, I was amazed at this philosophy and how easily it can be implemented in one’s life. Well, at least it is not one of those money-making attempts by the fake Indian spiritual “gurus” to capitalize on the consumer-driven lives of the people in the fast lane. I agree that I was suspicious about the potential of this philosophy, but I am glad that I was proved wrong.
